Jenny Throws Kirk A Birthday Vacation To Austin

2010 Austin Trip-27I’ve got the best wife… Every year for my birthday, Jenny plans a big gathering. This year, Jenny invited some of our closest friends to Lake Travis in Austin where we rented a large house for several days. We never left the house and used the time to catch up with each other. Everyone cooked their share of fantastic meals, we played board games for the first time since I was 16, found some new music (thanks Michael A.) and much more.

A big thanks to my wonderful wife for once again outdoing yourself. Also, thanks to Theresa, Mike & Amber; Michael & Henry; Lisa & Adrian, Annie & Tom; Michael & Melanie. Also, big thanks to Kate for being such a big girl and Max for your good behavior.

Greece – Day Trip to Aegina

Aegina-23Only 40 minutes from Athen’s Piraeus port, Aegina was the big rival of Athens around the 5th century. Now, tourist come for the beaches, the Agios Nektarios (Church), the Aphaia Temple, the fishing villages and more.

Jenny and I hoped the ferry and spent a few hours having lunch, swimming in the crystal clear water and lounging on the beach. We had planned to hit the other sites, but found the island’s beach and beer to be way to relaxing.

2009 Crawfish Boil w/ Friends

Crawfish-Boil-58It is crawfish time in Houston and no one cooks them better than Jenny’s mom. Every year, she orders 50-75 pounds and fills the grocery cart up with onions, salt, corn, red potatoes, sausage, orange, garlic, bay leaves, thyme, cayenne and some other secret ingredients. Then, she invites all our friends and family over to enjoy! While they are found across the country, crawfish are a big deal around Louisana and Texas. You might also know them as crayfish, crawdads, freshwater lobsters, or mudbugs. The name “crayfish” comes from the Old French word escrevisse.

One-Year Anniversary Surprise

2009 Anniversary-3I have a great wife! Its our anniversary (Feb 2nd) and she asked to plan the day. Here’s a little rundown of our day…

  1. >Brunch at Backstreet Cafe (one of our favorites)
  2. A couples massage for 75 minutes
  3. Movie (we’ve been wanted to see Slumdog Millionaire, but never had the time)
  4. The Houston Auto Show (not really romantic, but she knew I wanted to go… and we don’t have much time together)
  5. A surprise dinner prepared back at our house (thanks to Michael, Henry and our friends at Sushi Hana

Wedding Reception Setup

Reception Prep Pics-4Everyone we speak with about our wedding and reception remarks about how beautiful it was. And, I remember walking into the reception room prior to our guests and being caught off guard by how beautiful Jenny’s creation and plan turned out to be.

Jenny planned it all – the flowers, the chair covers, table setting, the positioning of art and photos, where the cakes and bar should be located and over other detail. Then, she continued with the Hors d’oeuvre, wine, champagne, surf-n-turf menu, cakes and party gifts. Finally, she topped it off with the a trio of violins playing during the reception.
