Greece – Start in Athens

May 27, 2009 By Kirk Pozadzides Leave a Comment

Athens-23Jenny and I started our tour of Greece in Athens. While there are other points of entry, any trip to Greece requires at least two days to see the tremendous history, architecture, panoramas, artifacts and more. Here is my personal list of the places you must see while in Athens:

  • The Acropolis and the Parthenon
  • National Archaeological Museum
  • Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon
  • Piraeus – The Port
  • Syntagma Square
  • The Plaka
  • The Agora and the Temple of Hephaestus
  • Dozens of beautiful Orthodox Churches…

Here are some pictures detailing just some of the gems located in Athens: [Read more…]

A glass of wine and this sunset… We must have been really, really good in our previous lives. Here are a few pictures from our balcony tonight:

Greece – Breath Taking Sunset @ Oia In Santorini

May 26, 2009 By Kirk Pozadzides Leave a Comment

Ia-28After spending some time in Fira (the capital), we ventured to Oia (pronounced E-a) to watch the world-famous sunset. The contrasting colors, building shapes and ruins make it a picturesque location… Couple that with breathtaking views and even amateur photographers can make a few nice pictures…

Travel Note: The 20-minute bus ride to Oia costs 1.40E one-way and a taxi costs 15E. The sun set ends around 8M, but most of the action occurs between 7:30-8PM. Get there a bit early to find your spot. Since this is the most photographed location in Greece, you’ll see plenty of people with cameras bigger than yours.

Here are few more pictures of Jenny, Tom, Annie and me: [Read more…]

Greece – The Rhodes of Many Civilizations

Rhodes-42There aren’t many places with a history like Rhodes. So, if you ever get a chance, this is a place you must visit. While standing on the island, you can trace its history by to 5000BC. Equally important, you can wonder around ruins from the Romans, Crusades and Ottoman Empire within the walls of a castle! Nevertheless, I love this place. Before we get to pictures, here’s a quick rundown of their history: [Read more…]

2009 Crawfish Boil w/ Friends

May 9, 2009 By Kirk Pozadzides Leave a Comment

Crawfish-Boil-58It is crawfish time in Houston and no one cooks them better than Jenny’s mom. Every year, she orders 50-75 pounds and fills the grocery cart up with onions, salt, corn, red potatoes, sausage, orange, garlic, bay leaves, thyme, cayenne and some other secret ingredients. Then, she invites all our friends and family over to enjoy! While they are found across the country, crawfish are a big deal around Louisana and Texas. You might also know them as crayfish, crawdads, freshwater lobsters, or mudbugs. The name “crayfish” comes from the Old French word escrevisse.

Here are a few pictures from our recent party: [Read more…]

Greece – Jenny’s Gone Wild (on ATV)

March 30, 2009 By Kirk Pozadzides Leave a Comment

ATV-4I have created a monster… Despite being “grown-ups”, Jenny and I prefer acting like kids as often as possible. This post is dedicated to my lovely wife and her pursuit of childhood fun riding our rented ATVs in Santorini and Paros.

After a few hours riding passenger as we explored Santorini, Jenny decided she could do it better (on Santorini and Paros). And, well, she was right. Here are a few pictures and videos: [Read more…]

After a week’s worth of meetings in Los Angeles and surrounding (Orange County, etc…), Jenny and her parents met up with me in Los Angeles for Jenny’s cousin’s wedding in Anaheim. Without boring you with all the details, Jenny, her sister, parents and I spent a weekend exploring LA, Anaheim, New Port Beach, Laguna Beach, Santa Monica, Redondo Beach and a few other areas…

Here are a few pictures of our weekend:

Jenny Accepted To MD Anderson

June 18, 2008 By Kirk Pozadzides Leave a Comment

Today, we received fantastic news…

For those of you not in the medical world, here’s a quick tutorial: Every doctor attends four years of medical school. In the 4th year of medical school, students must decide which field of medicine (specialty) to practice. Each medical field requires a residency (a training period) of 3 or more years. Afterwards, if the doctor wants to specialize, they apply for a fellowship (and subspecialize)!

Entrance into residency and fellowships programs follow the same path… Candidates must interview for the programs. This is where the “Match” comes in.

The “Match” is run like a computer matching game. After completing the interview process, the candidates (either med students or residents) submits their ranked list of programs. At the same time, the programs rank the candidates that they prefer. On “Match” day, the program tells you if/where the candidate has been accepted!

So, what’s the good news? Today (Match Day), Jenny was accepted into Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at the #1 ranked MD Anderson. Jenny’s hard work, dedication, commitment to patient care, and pure love of medicine made this possible! In the end, Jenny will be Boarded in Internal Medicine, Oncology and Hematology. She will be a cancer-killing machine!

What does this mean for us? Jenny will keep getting smarter, I will inevitably become dumber, we’ll start our future family, and continue enjoying our #1 ranked city, Houston!

Dallas: Great Food, Games, & Friends/Family

June 16, 2008 By Kirk Pozadzides Leave a Comment

Last weekend, we headed north to Big D (Dallas) for a family and friends weekend!

The weekend started off right with a culinary delight from Chef Dad! As you might expect from the Greek immigrant, we had lamb (my favorite). For grins, he threw on some cedar-plank grilled salmon. Note: if you are not grilling salmon on a cedar plank, you are missing out! I do not have Dad’s recipe, but here is one from Food Network.

Saturday was a busy one… We took my brother John out for a Vietnamese lunch (Jenny’s idea) and spent the afternoon relaxing had his house with my two favorite dogs, Lexi & Sandi.

Saturday night, Kev & Angela took us for steak and lobster at Steve Fields’ Steak and Lobster Lounge. Jenny had their Chilean Sea bass and I had their surf and turf. You cannot go wrong with anything on their menu, but you must save room for Chocolate Caramel Buttercream Cake.

Afterwards, we met up with Annie at Barcadia (Bar + Arcade). This cool little joint with tons of vintage 1980s video games. When is the last time you played Galaxia or Frogger?

Our good friend and musical genius, Michael A., hooked us up with a few CDs that we have been listening too ever since. I would highly recommend checking out:

  • Ray Lamontagne (Trouble)
  • Paolo Nutini (these streets)
  • James Morrison (Undiscovered)
  • Jason Mraz (We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things)
  • Amos Lee (Supply and Demand)
  • John Mayer (Continuum)
  • Gavin Degraw

So, we had a great weekend. And, like all weekends, it unfortunately ended!
