Baby Watch: 18 Weeks

September 13, 2009 By Kirk Pozadzides Leave a Comment

We’re just days away from finding out if its a boy or girl. Last week’s doctor trip didn’t yield any insight into that question, but Jenny will soon have a 4D image (and maybe video) of our little angel/monster.

This week, our baby measures approximately 5.5 inches from crown to rump and weighs about 5.25 ounces. The rapid growth spurt is tapering off, but reflexes are kicking in. Our baby can yawn, stretch and make facial expressions, even frown. Taste buds are beginning to develop and can distinguish sweet from bitter tastes. The baby will suck if its lips are stroked and it can swallow, and even get the hiccups. The retinas have become sensitive to light, so if a bright light is shined on your abdomen, baby will probably move to shield its eyes.

Jenny felt the baby move for the first time last week and she [ Jenny ] is feeling pretty good!

Labor Day Weekend in New Orleans

September 8, 2009 By Kirk Pozadzides Leave a Comment

Jenny and I spent a long weekend with our family (Jenny’s mom, dad, and sister) in New Orleans. It was a nice break from our typical crazy weekends and it afforded us a great chance to recharge the batteries. We arrived at Harrah’s Hotel & Casino in New Orleans late on Friday and came home late on Monday! Happy Labor Day Weekend!

While Jenny and I aren’t big gamblers, this trip provide time to explore New Orleans. Unfortunately, Jenny and I did not win the jackpot. I can say boldly that we won several hundred dollars; just don’t ask how much more we lost! We hit the Garden District, French Quarter, Metarie, and the Riverwalk. We both had our first (and probably last) ride on the street cars. And, we caught up on some movies while relaxing in our suite at Harrah’s. [Read more…]

Lake Travis Trip-11What a great weekend… Yesterday, Jenny and I made a day trip to Austin to hang out with our close friends (Theresa, Mike & Amber, Lisa, Michael and Michael & Henry) and celebrate:

  • Lisa’s completion of residency and her new job as an anesthesiologist
  • Michael & Henry’s new home purchase in Rice Village, a dream location
  • Michael Alvares’s acceptance into UT Southwestern’s Allergy and Immunology Fellowship
  • Jenny’s completion of Internal Medicine and her new job as a Hematology & Oncology Fellow at MD Anderson
  • Theresa’s completion of Internal Medicine and her new job as a Renal Fellow at UT Houston
  • …and, of course, our pregnancy!

Here are a few pictures of our day: [Read more…]

Port O’Conner Fishing

July 26, 2009 By Kirk Pozadzides Leave a Comment

Port OConner-23Justin, Kevin, Shawn and I spent the weekend fishing in Port O’Connor, TX;just two hours from Houston. This is a small coastal town between Galveston and Corpus Christi.

We had a blast and caught some fish. Unfortunately, you won’t hear any BIG fish stories… We were fishing for speckled trout over 15 inches… much smaller than Marlins we’ve caught in the past! According to the locals, the fish don’t seem to be biting well this year. However, Bo (our guide from MS Guide Service found us the right spot to catch eleven. Sadly enough, the Department of Fishing and Wildlife allows for 10 fish per person/day.

For lunch, we took half our fish to Josie’s Mexican Restaurant. They grilled up our fish for fajitas. For dinner, we took the remaining fish to Clark’s Shrimp House for some fried fish. Good eats!

Below you’ll find some pictures and video proof that the boys caught fish. [Read more…]

We’re having a baby!

June 17, 2009 By Kirk Pozadzides Leave a Comment

Jenny is pregnant!

We’re incredibly excited, but mindful that we’re still early in the game. Fortunately, Jenny is feeling well despite being a bit tired! However, I think the excitement outweighs feeling rundown!

We will keep you updated on our (or Jenny’s) progress! Until then, keep us in your thoughts and prayers… hopefully, the baby will have Jenny’s looks and intelligence.
Now to the bigger question: Is the world ready for another Pozadzides?

Greece – Tough Economy For Locals, But Relaxing For Tourists

June 3, 2009 By Kirk Pozadzides Leave a Comment

spendicusJenny and I both agree there is never a good time for vacation… These days our demanding work load, personal and professional commitments and challenging economy make it tough to “get away!’ We had a fantastic Greek adventure with great sights, tastes and memories. As always, we would wish for more time together in such a beautiful country.

Most importantly, Jenny and I feel fortunate! Greece is struggling! It’s easy to focus on Greece’s natural beauty and forget its third world status. [Read more…]

Greece – Tasty, Fresh Greek Cuisine

June 1, 2009 By Kirk Pozadzides Leave a Comment

Greek Food_405To say we ate well is an understatement. Throughout our trip, we ate fresh fish, tried new exotic foods, and sampled different interpretations of classic dishes.

All food is expensive in Greece. The Euro has distorted prices in Greece and created export demand for many of Greece’s staple products like fish, meat, even produce. Fresh fish is typically sold at 30-60E/kilo in Athens and the islands. Convert that to US Dollars and we pay dramatically less for much higher quality fish. [Read more…]

A Message From Santorini to our Future Kids

June 1, 2009 By Kirk Pozadzides Leave a Comment

We might not be parents yet, but Jenny and I were dreaming of the future and what our kids might be like. We took a few minutes to record a short message for them. While it might be really windy, I suspect our kids will understand. We love you future kiddos!
